TRUE LIBERTY HAS LIMITS
“But take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak,” 1 Corinthians 8:9.
Whether it is national freedom or our freedom in Christ, it is wonderful to be FREE.
The personal liberties of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to protect ourselves (bear arms), freedom to exercise our vote, freedom to pursue happiness, which are afford us in the Constitution of the United States, are cherished rights.
Added to these liberties are those awarded to Believers in Christ, freedom from sin’s curse, freedom from Satan’s control, freedom from eternal death, freedom to pursue righteousness. These freedoms are also confirmed by a written document, God’s Holy Word.
In both cases, these freedoms came at a great price. Blood was shed. Our temporal freedoms were paid for by the sacrifices of men. On the other hand, our eternal freedoms required a Divine sacrifice. Both were made voluntarily in love.
With freedom comes responsibility. Whether it is our national or spiritual freedom, we are to exercise our freedom with thoughtful care. Our national freedoms end where our neighbor’s begin. So too, spiritual freedom is to be exercised with thoughtful care of others.
True liberty does have limits. Only our old nature would want unbridled liberty, which would then take us back into the same old bondage.
In thoughtful care and deep appreciation to God and Country, enjoy your LIBERTY.
